The Movie Movie

"This is underrated :("

submission: The Movie Movie
date: August 3, 2009

I agree with what others have said, this is your best work on Newgrounds. After watching it again, I still think it's really funny, and it's sad to see that it got a low score considering how good it was.

It's really cool to see something so good which was made by such a few people. The acting was good, without considering a couple of points when I felt like you didn't know what to say next, maybe you had a hard time learning your lines? Or maybe it's just me, I don't know.

You did a great job with the quality. 10.5MB is really low considering how good it was. After having watched this movie on another website, I thought that the quality would be much worse here, but it was quite a surprise to know that it wasn't bad.

It was pretty funny too. There were a good amount of jokes from beginning to end making this really enjoyable to watch. Some of those were hilarious, especially the thing about ninjas and cowboys.

My favorite part was when you were narrating the story, and at the same time it was happening. It was pretty funny and you did a great work with it.

I'm voting 10/10, I hope the score gets higher with time because as I said, this is underrated.

Wow thanks a lot.

The lines.. we never had lines lol. We just turn the camera on and start recording so yeah sometimes we got to think of what to say.

Generic Sprite Flash: 2

"Good job"

date: June 11, 2009

As other people have said, you have improved :) It's nice to see you followed some of the advices people gave you in the previous flash.

The animation was good, and the sounds and music you used were good too. The subtitle bar was a good idea in my opinion, it's aesthetically better.

I think there isn't any flaw on this movie, but the only bad thing is that I think that the "camping" scene was a bit random and unrelated. Other than that everything was good.

Also I see you're planning to use voices on the next part. I strongly encourage to do so because it will make it much better ;)

Author's Response:

The camping scene was from Golden Axe. I planned on incorporating some different games into this as side jokes/gags. Sorry you didn't think it fit there.

Thanks for the review.

Generic Sprite Flash: 1

"Generic review"

date: April 11, 2009

If this is your first sprite movie then let me tell you that you did a great job. I'm not onto the Zelda series, in fact I never played a Zelda game, so maybe I can't make a great review, but I'll try it out.

I don't know where to start... Oh yeah, the beginning... In the first scene there was a typo, when link says "What am I suppose...", I think it should be "supposed". I think that was the only mistake I saw on the flash, and it's not even that important.

The music you chose for this flash was cool and went along with it, it matched the scenes so I guess that's a good thing.

Also, sometimes (only sometimes) I had the feeling that the characters were slow, but again, I haven't played the videogames so I can't say anything about this. Anyway, I never felt it was so slow that it was boring, so you shouldn't worry about that.

So I think that's all, I wrote this review as honestly as I could, though I'm not a big fan of sprites. The movie was good, so I voted 3/5, and my score is 7/10.

Author's Response:

I spell something wrong in every post, review, comment, flash, etc.. that I make. ^^ The comments on the music reminds me I have to credit those audio artists sometime soon. Plus in future projects I will work on the speed of the characters.

Thanks for the review and the motivation. :)

Pi-R Action

"Addictive..."

submission: Pi-R Action
date: October 11, 2008

This was a nice game, it kept me playing for a while, because although it's pretty simple and not the most original idea ever, it was pretty addictive.

The graphics were simple and easy and made the game easy to understand. I mean that it was very hard to confuse one type of ball with another. In games like this it's OK to keep it simple because later it will become more laggy if you have a lot of balls with weird graphics.

I liked the HUD, or whatever you call the placed it said your score. Again was simple, easy to look at, and at the same time it didn't distract you from the main game. Same for the quality and sound buttons.

The collision detection was good. I often find games that could possibly be very fun but are screwed up with bad hit tests. So congrats for this :)

Maybe more types of enemies which move in a different way (like more randomly) would be good.

I liked the fact that the game saved your score so you can come back later to beat your score. And I think that was the main thing that made this so addictive, because you always want to achieve a higher score. A high score table would be appreciated, so you could compete against other people.

The music was good, it was entertaining and fun to listen while you're playing. It was a good idea to include the mute button because many people like listening to their own music.

So, I'm voting 7/10, it was fun, well done, and addictive. It makes people go back later to beat their high score, this is a strong point.
I'd like to see more enemies, and a high score table if you ever make a second part.

Keep it up :)

October 11, 2008

Author's Response:

Thanks for the long review :D I Toatally agree with all you said. The reason why there is no highscore table is just that I'm to lazy to code my own and don't fell like using the mochi one since I don't like it's look (and I'm lazy :P).

Thanks again for the review.

Blue Driving Game

"Simple"

submission: Blue Driving Game
date: October 6, 2008

That's how I'd define your name in one word. The game has potential, you just have to add things to it to make it more complete and interesting.

First of all, you should name your game with something better that "Blue Driving Game", these kind of things give your game more personality.

The graphics were nothing too new, I mean, they were just OK. Still, it would be good to have an animation when the care crashes against the red... Thing.

The hand brake wasn't good at all, I mean, it should make the car go slower instead of just stopping it. It made the game extremely easy in those parts when you're on the gray things which accelerates you.

It would be nice to have some music, if you ever make a new version of this game, I really think you should include this. If you do, a mute button would be great, since some players like listening to their own music :)

Adding different kind of obstacles could be a good idea. You could also include some kind of power-ups (go faster, etc).

Another feature which would be great is a timer. Then you could also add a highscore table so players would compete to finish the game faster and faster.

Other sounds would be awesome too, I mean, sound when you break, accelerate, etc.

Remember to add a preloader if you make a game with a bigger file size, even if it's a bit small it could cause problems in computers with slow connections.

I'll give you a 4/10 and a 2/5.
:)

Cannon Deffence

"You could improve. A lot."

submission: Cannon Deffence
date: August 27, 2008

Actually, I thought you were going to improve much more than that when you asked for help at the Pre-portal Review Crew. Anyway, I'm here to write an objective review.

Animation/Graphics: As I said before, OK, not great, but not too bad. You put more effort in that skull, but still it wasn't good at all. You're lucky, it moves too fast to be noticed in detail. Maybe practicing would help. I liked the black triangles, but they were just that, could still be improved. And you really need to fix the base when it moves around, because the turret didn't move.
Story: None.
Audio: Good to see you improved and chose this one, which fits better.
Gameplay: Again as I said, this has been done lots of time, in many different ways, so when you're trying to do a game like this, you need to do something new. If you don't add something too innovative, it will be the same as many other games who most people have played before, and therefore boring. Once again I repeat the same, when you are hit by an enemy, you lose a lot of lives because the hitTest is tested on every frame. You could solve this so adding a var like for example a boolean, so if it hits you once, it can't hit you twice. Different kind of enemies would be a lot appreciated.

Sorry to have to be so hard, but I have to say that this game is not good. You still have a lot to improve, and you should have improved the things I said before submitting this. Anyway, Who am I to judge you?

I'll vote 1/5 and 2/10.
I don't vote 0 because at least you did something, and I know is low, but I can't give you a high score because you submitted a game with mistakes, even when you knew that they were there. But it seems like you grabbed a tutorial and you did copy-paste, because there isn't anything too innovative and there are a lot of mistakes.

--

Now, I'll add something more because I know what you will say in response.
I know it's your first game, but that doesn't mean you don't have to put effort into it. A lot of artists get a great score, and even awards in their first submission.
Keep practicing.

Space Wing

"Great, but need to work on the difficulty"

submission: Space Wing
date: July 20, 2008

Well, making a game like this is not an easy task, because it has been done lots of times, but you did a great job.

This game has some good points that deserve to be mentioned, these are::
-Several stages: Each of them offering something new, after finishing a stage, you didn't know what was going to happen.
-Many different enemies: Just when you think there can't be a new type of enemy, it appears. Also every enemy has a different attack and that makes it good.
-Leveling up and upgrading, giving it that special 'rpg touch'. However I must say that some upgrades made you really strong, and made the game easy.

I will only complain about one thing: The game difficulty. It was too easy. The first stage is ok, because you're just learning and all that, but on later levels it needs to be more difficult, otherwise the game will be a bit boring. One of the things that made it easy, is that if an enemy's attack touches your wing it doesn't hurt you, so dodging the attacks was pretty easy. Also, some upgrades made it easy to, for example if you upgrade your attack power and get the missiles upgrade, enemies were way too easy to kill. Maybe to solve this, in later levels the enemies should be tougher. It was very difficult to die because you had a very big amount of HP, and enemies attacks were pretty harmless (and as I said before, they were easy to dodge). That also made the "Up HP" upgrade useless. Maybe lowering the player's life and making the enemy's attack stronger will solve this. Also, you should forget about the recovering HP upgrade, it also made it easy.
Also, adding 'mini-bosses' would be ok. I mean, bosses that are not so powerful as the real ones, and that come in the middle of a stage. Adding several mini-bosses per stage will make it much more difficult.

I think you should make a sequel and work more on the difficulty (and of course adding new things, I don't know, it is up to you).

I'll give you 8/10 because you need to work on the difficulty.
Cheers.

Arachnophilia

"Good concept"

submission: Arachnophilia
date: June 28, 2008

This is a very good game, it's very imaginative and it offers many posibilities too. However in advanced levels, it all happens very quickly and it's difficult to play (this also depends on the player's skill). Also when you have many bugs in your web, in runs a bit laggy, so I think the player should be able to change the quality. A pause button would be good too.

4/4, 8/10

PS: It would be good to play the inverse game, I mean, you send the bugs who have to break the web :)
